BJÖRKÅ is a professional design agency operating across diverse fields of product design such as kitchen and household products, commercial and passenger cars, sport goods, consumer electronics, etc. The inspiration of its pure sense of aesthetics comes from Nordic nature, and BJÖRKÅ has integrated the Raise3D E2 3D printer into the product prototyping and manufacturing process, and doing so has enabled them to quickly validate the dimensional accuracy of the design while rendering more detailed products.
Traditional Manufacturing Risk of Prototype Leakage
Prior to the introduction of 3D printing technology, BJÖRKÅ mainly outsourced the production of product prototypes to a mould factory in Dongguan, China. Although these manufacturers have a certain production capacity, they face many challenges in practice. Firstly, the internal design of the product is not adequately protected, resulting in innovative designs that are easily leaked and copied. Secondly, the outsourcing process suffers from inefficiencies in communication, making it difficult to accurately express the design requirements.
In addition, third-party manufacturers focus more on short-term profits and neglect the long-term quality and brand value of their products. These problems not only increase development costs, but also make BJÖRKÅ’s original designs subject to frequent imitation, and product quality is difficult to guarantee.
More Flexibility to Prototyping
Lilla is a symbolic kettle developed in-house by BJÖRKÅ, with a uniquely inspired design, an ergonomic handle and a heater at the bottom derived from the traditional charcoal design. Unlike traditional kettles, the Lilla greatly optimizes the experience of using the kettle, reducing the need to coordinate the wrist, elbow and even the shoulder when pouring.
Realizing the limitations of the traditional manufacturing model, BJÖRKÅ started looking for a more flexible production tool. After comparing several 3D printers, the Raise3D E2 3D printer was the choice for integration into BJÖRKÅ’s production and manufacturing procedures. It runs through the entire process, from pre-production prototyping to part design, supporting the validation and optimization of the design and enabling multiple iterations at each stage of the development process, greatly improving design-to-production efficiency from design to production. The designer’s ideas were quickly transformed into reality, significantly speeding up the design iteration process.
BJÖRKÅ values the outstanding performance of the Raise3D E2 in printing on flexible materials, as well as its Independent Dual Extruder Nozzle (IDEX) technology, which not only supports two-color printing, but also prints two different parts at the same time, making it flexible enough to meet the needs of low-volume production. The printer’s superior accuracy and stability help BJÖRKÅ produce high-quality prototypes with smooth, detailed surfaces for product design and manufacturing.
The Raise3D E2 printer has allowed BJÖRKÅ to successfully print 40-50 functional parts since acquiring it. For the prototype of the Lilla coffee pot, the designers mainly used PLA material, which not only fulfils the physical property requirements, but also dramatically shortens the time from concept to finished product and considerably reduces the production cost.
3D Printing in Prototype Iteration
The Raise3D E2 printer has significantly accelerated BJÖRKÅ’s prototyping and testing, shortening the prototyping lead time and streamlining the entire development process. Today, the 3D printer is a key tool for Björkas in prototyping and product production, especially after the purchase of VR glasses, where the need to print functional parts was effectively met.
Unlocking More Design Potential
With Raise3D E2 3D printing technology, BJÖRKÅ has effectively solved the problems of design leakage and inefficiency in the outsourcing process, while achieving greater design freedom and production flexibility. Nariman Bashiri, founder of BJÖRKÅ, spoke highly of Raise3D’s performance, „Raise3D’s printers have been excellent and have greatly improved our design and production efficiency. “
With the support of Raise3D’s high-precision printing technology, BJÖRKÅ has gained unprecedented flexibility in product development, enabling the rapid validation of innovative designs and the launch of high-quality products. Going forward, Raise3D will continue to provide advanced and reliable solutions and technical support to innovative companies around the world, helping them to stand out in a competitive market.
